There are endless of watches on the market. Some are made for a dressier type of clothing, some for a more casual look. It can be pretty hard to determine which watch to buy or what to wear with the specific watch. Luckily we have a set of rules to help us. Remember, they are not set in stone so if you want to push the boundaries go ahead - style is individual. However with these simple and short tips to guide you, things might be more clear on what kind of watch you want and how to style it.
Imagine you are wearing a watch with a rose gold case or maybe a mesh strap. You then put on a silver bracelet. Something seems a bit off right? Instead, try to match the metals for a more clean look.
If you want to be sure you got things right. Match your leather strap with your shoes. That's simply one of the easiest step you can take for a safe yet stylish look. However, if you look to experiment with different straps, that's no problem! The main part to remember is to use a similar tone on your shoes that's somewhat close to your strap.
Proportion is one important aspect when it comes to watches. The width of the case combined with your wrist plays the biggest role in determining the right size for you. At Helvin we wanted two case diameters that complimented most wrist sizes for women and men. Our choice was 36mm and 41mm. To make sure you get the right size, measure your wrist.
There are many factors to consider in this rule. To keep it simple: You don't want to be going to a formal party wearing your expensive beautiful tuxedo, only to be found wearing a nato strap with your elegant looking watch with its white face. A white faced watch sounds nice right? It does, since it is probably the most formal face type. What about the nato strap? Not so good. For this example, go for a black leather strap. That's an excellent combination for a formal event. A good thing about leather straps are their versatility. They are easily dressed up or down. However, a more of a worn-in type of leather would be best suited for a casual event.
There we go. 4 simple tips! The list could go on forever, and we will be covering more of these rules in the future. However I wanted to keep it brief and simple, so that when we get more into depth, you will have a basic foundation to work with.
